Monday, July 26th:  Today we set out our melt experiments
in the sun while we went to Lars Anderson to collect
materials for a project.  Chad gave us some specific items
to look for on the land and in the pond.  We had a hard
time trying to find snails that were small enough to fit in a
test tube because most of the snails in the pond are giant
Japanese Mystery Snails like the ones in our pool.
setting out our melt experiments
butter was also popular, but not as popular as chocolate
chocolate was very popular
Chad is giving us our directions
exploring the pond's edge
collecting duckweed samples
Tuesday, July 27th:  Today we used our field collection samples from
Monday to put together our biomes with Chad.  In Randy's room we
transformed transparent slides into translucent slides with masking tape.
Then we covered them with opaque black construction paper to create a
mirrored effect which we used to make kaleidoscopes.
each biomes is made from one plastic bottle that was cut and inverted into its own base
the bottom contains both small aquatic plant and animal specimens
the top cone contains all our land specimens and when we water them the extra seeps into the bottom
constructing and testing our kaleidoscopes
the best part is that everyone's looks different so they are fun to share
Wednesday, July 28th:  Today we took a walking field trip to the other side of Lars Anderson to check out the soap box derby
and see if their cars worked similar to the ones we made earlier this session.  We also wanted to see how gravity would work on
a larger design.
we made signs to cheer on the racers
it was very exciting
even Queen Mary was cheering!
Thursday, July 29th:  Egg Drop
Friday, July 30th:  Today we explored the many properties of water and absorption.  We also experimented a lot with gravity and
bipedal mammal locomotion--in other words we had a great time playing games with water today!
In the water relay we had to cary water on our heads...
...weaving in and out of the cones...
...pour the water into a bucket with a sponge...
...and then throw the sponge to a team mate who squeezed the water in a bowl.
Later, our LITs, Brendan and Sahana, planned a waterballoon toss for us!
